What is Coaching?
I would generally describe a coaching session as a safe and confidential conversational space where you can build understanding, find meaning, set goals, and work collaboratively with your coach towards desired outcomes.
I am a member of the International Coaching Federation who also provide a definition of coaching on their website.
What Does a Typical Coaching Session Cover?
To give a few examples, coaching sessions might cover a wide range of topics including values, thoughts, feelings, observations, wants, desired outcomes, and more.
How Will Coaching Help Me?
Benefits derived from sessions with a coach differ for each individual and may include some of the following:
- Building self-awareness
- Gaining understanding of true feelings and wants
- Building clarity on goals and desired outcomes
- Finding meaning
- Gaining clarity on complicated thoughts
- Gaining confidence around your thoughts and ideas
- Digging deeper into your life and/or your career
- Building understanding around your approach to difficult conversations, conflict, or self-advocacy
- Expanding vocabulary in support of self-realization
- Hearing your own words reflected back to you
- Constructing metaphors to help frame real-life challenges
What is My Approach as a Coach?
There are several key aspects of my approach as a coach, which I will speak to in detail during the consultation process:
- I am driven by the client’s agenda and ideas, not the coach’s agenda and ideas. I believe your ideas are superior to any ideas I might have, and I will generally not share my ideas
- I aim to be non-judgemental and non-directive
- I am open to the use of metaphors to enhance insight and understanding
- Confidentiality and safe space as required by the ICF and foundational to coaching as a professional service
- Partnership to co-create the space you desire in sessions
